203. Nutrition and Fitness

Scene: At the gym, Alex and Jamie are taking a break after a workout.

Alex: Hey Jamie, I’ve been working out regularly, but I’m not seeing the results I expected. Do you think my diet might be the issue?

Jamie: It’s very possible, Alex. Nutrition plays a huge role in fitness. Are you paying attention to what you eat before and after your workouts?

Alex: Not really. I just eat when I’m hungry. What should I be eating before a workout?

Jamie: Before a workout, you need something that gives you energy. A combination of carbs and protein is ideal. For example, you could have a banana with a spoonful of peanut butter or a small bowl of oatmeal with some berries.

Alex: That sounds good. What about after the workout?

Jamie: After your workout, it’s important to help your muscles recover. A mix of protein and carbs is again the key. Something like a protein shake with a banana, or a chicken salad with some quinoa would work well.

Alex: I see. And what about hydration? I’ve heard it’s important, but I’m not sure how much water I should be drinking.

Jamie: Hydration is crucial, both before, during, and after your workouts. Aim to drink water throughout the day. Specifically, drink about 16-20 ounces of water 2 hours before you exercise, 8-10 ounces 20 minutes before you start, and then 7-10 ounces every 10-20 minutes during your workout. After you’re done, try to drink at least 16-24 ounces.

Alex: Wow, that’s a lot more water than I’ve been drinking. I guess I have a lot to improve on.

Jamie: It’s all about making small changes. Once you start paying attention to your nutrition and hydration, you’ll likely see better results from your workouts.

Alex: Thanks, Jamie. I’ll definitely start following your advice. I’m excited to see the changes!

Jamie: You’re welcome, Alex. Just remember, consistency is key. Stick with it, and you’ll do great!
